Palacio de Bellas Artes

The current building, the National Museum of Fine Arts, was the first building built expressly in Latin America as a museum and school of Fine Arts, inaugurated on September 18 1810, adding to the celebrations of the centennial. A french neoclassic style, was designed by architect Emilio Jecquier.

The architectural has two main entrances, the east to the National Museum of Fine Arts that brings together a collection of approximately 6,000 works, among paintings, engravings, sculptures and photographs. Developed annually an extensive program of exhibitions.

Faced with this entry, as a prelude to the museum, is the famous sculpture of the chilean Rebeca Matte, called Icarus and Maze.

By the entry poniente is entered into the Museum of Contemporary Art (MAC), founded in 1947 dependent on the Faculty of Arts at the University of Chile. With a collection of famed contemporary artists such as Matta, Antúnez, Nogushi, Garafulic, Colvín, Egneu and Parra.
